20241103 173307

Indulge in the Magic of Baked Moons with Wild Cherry Jam

Elevate your dessert game with these enchanting Baked Moons filled with Wild Cherry Jam. Perfectly crispy shortcrust pastry meets luscious, tart-sweet wild cherry jam for a treat that’s as beautiful as it is delicious. These half-moon pastries are simple to make and delightful to share with friends and family.

Why Wild Cherry Jam?

Wild cherry jam is a forager’s delight, made from cherries that grow naturally in the wild. Its intense flavor and natural sweetness make it a perfect filling for these buttery, flaky pastries. If you don’t have homemade wild cherry jam, store-bought works just as well for this recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 pack (about 500 g) shortcrust pastry (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 cup (120 g) wild cherry jam
  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • Optional: Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat and Prep

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2: Roll and Cut

Roll out the shortcrust pastry on a lightly floured surface to about 1/8-inch (3 mm) thickness. Use a round cutter (approximately 4 inches or 10 cm in diameter) to cut out circles.

Step 3: Fill and Fold

Place a teaspoon of wild cherry jam in the center of each pastry circle. Fold the circle in half to create a half-moon shape. Press the edges together firmly with a fork to seal.

Step 4: Add the Egg Wash

Brush the tops of the pastries lightly with beaten egg to give them a golden finish.

Step 5: Bake

Place the pastries on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crisp. Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly.

Step 6: Finish and Serve

If desired, dust the baked moons with powdered sugar before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.

Why You’ll Love These Pastries

  • Effortlessly Elegant: These pastries look impressive but are incredibly easy to make.
  • Versatile: Perfect for tea time, dessert, or a party platter.
  • Burst of Flavor: The wild cherry jam provides a rich, tangy sweetness that perfectly complements the buttery pastry.

Tips for Success

  • Chill the pastry slightly if it becomes too soft while working with it.
  • Avoid overfilling the pastries to prevent leakage during baking.
  • For added flair, sprinkle slivered almonds on top before baking.

A Bite of Whimsy

Baked Moons with Wild Cherry Jam are more than just a treat – they’re a little piece of culinary art. Perfectly portioned and bursting with flavor, they’re sure to delight anyone who takes a bite. Happy baking!
