Experience the magic of autumn like never before with our foraging adventure in the picturesque woodlands or meadows of Leicestershire. As the air turns crisp and the leaves transform into a kaleidoscope of colors, there’s no better time to explore the bountiful harvest that nature provides during this enchanting season. This isn’t just a walk in the woods; it’s a journey into the heart of autumn, where every step brings the potential for discovering something extraordinary.

Discovering Autumn’s Edible Bounty

Autumn is a time of abundance, and our foraging adventure is all about discovering the many ways in which the season can nourish us. Beyond mushrooms and berries, we’ll explore the world of wild nuts and seeds that fall to the forest floor at this time of year and any surviving greens.

Our experienced guide will lead the way, sharing their extensive knowledge of the local flora and fungi we encounter.

You will learn how to identify edible mushrooms and the seasonal berries that adorn the hedgerows. We will discover much more than the tart and tangy sloes, ideal for making gin and the sweet and succulent blackberries, perfect for pies and jams. There is also an abundance of edible seeds—like beech nuts and acorns—that can be harvested and transformed into nourishing autumnal dishes.

The Art of Sustainable Foraging

While the thrill of the hunt is exhilarating, responsible foraging is at the core of our philosophy. We’ll guide you through the legal and ethical considerations of foraging, ensuring that your impact on the environment is minimal. Understanding the laws surrounding foraging is essential—did you know that while it’s generally legal to pick wild plants for personal use in the UK, there are restrictions on what, where, and how much you can gather? We’ll discuss the importance of foraging only what you need, leaving enough behind for wildlife and future growth, and the significance of avoiding protected species or areas.

A Secret Location Revealed

The exact location of our foraging expedition will remain a closely guarded secret until just a few days before the event. This is to enhance a chance of finding fungi. We will select the most promising location closer to the day and only email it to the events participants. We still can’t guarantee, that we will find mushrooms. Nature has its own ways.

Connecting with Nature and Community

This event isn’t just about finding food; it’s about connecting with nature in a meaningful way, and building a community of like-minded individuals who share a passion for the outdoors, sustainability, and the culinary arts. You’ll have the opportunity to meet fellow foraging enthusiasts, exchange tips and recipes, and perhaps even form lasting friendships.

Learning for Life

One of the greatest gifts of foraging is the knowledge you’ll gain—skills that will stay with you long after the event is over. We aim to teach you not just what to look for, but how to truly observe and understand the natural world around you. You’ll leave with a deeper appreciation for the rhythms of the seasons, and the confidence to forage on your own, bringing the flavors of the wild into your everyday life.
