As autumn arrives, Charnwood’s woodlands offer a rich opportunity to explore fungi, trees, and seasonal plants. Our Family-Friendly Autumn Fungi & Woodland Discovery Session is a relaxed, hands-on event for adults and children, designed to encourage curiosity and careful observation in the woodland.
This 1.hour session allows plenty of time for children to explore, spot fungi, and look closely at what’s growing around them. We’ll focus on autumn fungi where conditions allow, but will also explore edible and medicinal trees and plants, ensuring there is always lots to see and learn — even in drier weather when mushrooms may be less abundant.
Hands on fun learning activities for kids and adults during the course and lots of tasty treat.
This is not a foraging-for-eating session. We won’t collect food during the walk. Instead, we’ll provide pre-prepared tasty samples made from edible and medicinal plants and trees, giving everyone a safe way to experience wild flavours while focusing on learning.
What you’ll learn:
- Basic fungi safety and identification principles
- How to recognise common autumn fungi, trees, and plants
- The role of fungi in woodland ecosystems
- Identification of edible or medicinal plants
Suitable for all ages. No previous experience needed. Children must be supervised by a responsible adult.
Please dress for the weather and woodland conditions.
Join us for a gentle, family-friendly woodland session full of discovery, learning, and autumn exploration — whatever the season brings. 🍄🍂
